While Park City is definitely a winter playground, the fall months bring such beauty to the area that travelers would be remiss if they didn’t plan at least one fall vacation in our mountain town! Offering a sublime beauty filled with color and charm, your days will be exciting ones as you participate in the activities during the fall in Park City listed below, and your nights will be comfortable ones as you gather by a fireplace with your family, sipping hot cocoa, playing games, and relaxing in the comfort of our Park City Hotels seasonal sanctuaries!
Day 1: Good Morning, Park City!
The first day of any vacation is always about discovery, and as you explore breakfast options, the Breakfast Establishment, located in downtown Park City, provides a great place to start! Offering hearty meals that will “stick to your ribs” (something our grandparents always used to say!) and a location in the center of our historic district, today is the perfect day to discover what the town has to offer. Explore this historic district, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and be charmed by the colorful architecture of more than 40 buildings built in a variety of styles, including Queen Anne and Victorian. Many of the buildings house charming boutiques and sophisticated galleries, so doing a little window shopping is always a good idea, and at the end of the day, dinner can take you back to the Breakfast Establishment, as they open again at 5 PM for dinner service!
Day 2 of Park City Fall Activities: Breathe Deep and Walk Far
The crisp air, the scent of fireplaces, and the sight of colorful trees may make day two the perfect day to take a hike along the very trails that will soon be covered in snow! The crowds will have lessened as kids are back in school and many travelers who aren’t in the know are waiting for the winter to make their journey to Park City. There are a variety of trails with a variety of difficulty levels, some offering little gain in elevation (Lost Prospector to Gambel Oak Loop only offers a 500 foot gain in elevation) while others will burn your calves as you climb higher for the best views in town! (Bloods Lake to Peak 10420 to Clayton Peak offers a whopping 2000 foot gain in elevation!) Whichever trail you take, however, the trees dressed in their finest fall garb are destined to take your breath away with their colorful beauty.
Day 3: Walk in the Footsteps of Champions
In the winter of 2002, the eyes of the world were on Park City as we hosted many of the events in the Winter Olympics, and today, visitors can walk in the footsteps of champions with a visit to the Utah Olympic Park, located at 3419 Olympic Parkway. Offering tours of the very spots Olympic heroes from all over the world won their gold, silver, and bronze medals, there is also a museum inside the park that tells the story of the world’s best skiers. Also providing a zipline experience that will have you flying through the colorful trees you hiked under yesterday, you could probably spend the entire day at the Utah Olympic Park and not see it all!
Day 4: Foodie’s Day of Fun
The best part of any vacation is enjoying a taste of the town, and the Park City Food Walking Tour offers the opportunity to taste it all at once, while also giving guests a peak into the history, folklore, and culture of our mountain hometown. Lasting two hours and stopping in some of the best restaurants in town, kids are welcome, and alcohol can be purchased for an extra fee with ID. No need to worry about cooking on this day because you will be quite full after this adventure!
Day 5: Road Trippin’
As your time in Park City draws ever nearer to the end, it is time to pull the car from its warm and comfy parking garage and start exploring the countryside via the Guardsman Pass Scenic Backway! Billed as one of the most scenic drives in the nation, the changing of the leaves make this drive one of the most colorful as well! Be sure to stop at EVERY observation point along the drive, keeping your camera handy for taking pictures that are destined to be frame worthy; even your selfies will shine bright during this road trip through paradise!
Day 6: Time to Shop
Your first full day was all about window shopping, but today is a great day for giving your credit cards a workout as you actually dip in and out of the boutiques and shops that line the streets of downtown Park City. Pick up something artsy at the Main Street Gallery, something memorable in Park City Souvenir Co, and something glittery in Woodbury Jewelers; all three shops are on Main Street and are within a short distance from your downtown sanctuary!
